As Singapore extended its COVID-19 “circuit breaker” period by four weeks until 1st of June, most of us run out of the ideas what to do at home, especially if you have kids. Here are some ideas of how to use your time wisely during the Circuit Breaker.

Positive Mindset

Yes, it is all about adaptability and positive thoughts. Think positive and look ahead to sunnier days by making a bucket list or do things that makes you happy.

Create a daily routine that works for you

Creating a schedule for your daily tasks and activities that you’re able to stick to will help you to form good habits and break bad ones for a more productive, happier life. First, write down everything you need to get done daily, both in your home life and at work, structure your day and try it out.

Buy a loved one or friend a gift

Staying connected with the ones you love during this tough time doesn’t have to involve social media. Make someone’s day by sending them a heartfelt gift! As Mother’s Day around the corner, it is a perfect time to surprise your loved one or friends. It can be anything-flower bouquet (Far East Flora, Roses Only, Floral Garage Singapore, Floristique), a small gift, special meal set, gift voucher, cake or macarons (love Annabella Patisserie) or anything from your heart.

Stay Active & Healthy

Whether you strive for a healthier mind or body, being healthy will allow you to feel better, look better, and do better.

Keeping active will make a big difference to how you feel during Circuit Breaker– physical activity should help you sleep better and lift your mood, even if you’re stuck in the same room for most of the day.

Help Others

Sometimes the best way to get out of your head is to help other people. You may have some local groups that are focused on helping the vulnerable or isolated during this difficult time. Alternatively, you can help others by recommending their service or products to your friends, it takes only 1-2 minutes of your time but the impact is huge!

Love the idea of sending a meal to healthcare heroes by Why Q company. We also support local F&B outlets , “Singapore Restaurant Rescue” Facebook Page is an amazing source to find new restaurants with delirious food.

Virtual Experience

The perfect time to explore new places and make your bucket list for future travel.

If you’ have love for art and plan to visit galleries or museums in the future, Google’s arts and culture collection has virtual tours of nearly 500 top attractions around the world, including national galleries, individual artist museums, and even the Eiffel Tower.

The British Museum is home to incredible artefacts from around the world and is still open to virtual visitors. Exhibits that are usually packed are free to roam around at any time, so you can brush up on your Egyptian knowledge, see the controversial Parthenon Marbles, or just wile away a few hours.

In Singapore, let the librarians from Public Libraries Singapore (check their Facebook page) take you and your kids on a journey into a world of fascinating tales through stories online from now till 15th of May! Suitable for children aged 4-10.  They host on Mondays/Wednesdays, Fridays at 6.30pm and Tuesday/Thursday at 10am.

Movie Movie Movie

Enjoy watching favorite movies, drama or documentary. There are plenty options for you and your family to choose from.

Some of the favorite Netflix movie series: Friends, Mind Your Language, Homeland, Designated Survivor, Blacklist, Homeland, IP Man, Money Heist, The Last Kingdom.

Keep Learning

There are thousands of great resources online in all possible fields to keep our brains busy. Now is the perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge and gain new skills. It could be dance lessons, a pottery class, or some new management skills.

Always wanted to speak Italian, think that Mandarin will be useful for work, or perhaps Japanese? Stay home gives you plenty of time to dedicate to learning a new language, brushing up on vocabulary, and testing out pronunciation.

I recommend www.udemy.com and www.coursera.org which i use personally.

Bonding with kids

Make time for your kids every day, even if it is 30 min , it will create a huge impact for your relationship. It may be sport activities together, painting/drawing, playing board games, baking or cooking, watching a movie, gardening, reading or playing games.

There are also many online resources for kids such as  storytelling, quiz games, art classes, yoga, dance, singing, etc.

We love playing chess and scrabble games. Egg hunt is also one of our favorite activity.

Reflect and Redefine

This is very interesting experience. Suddenly, we have a lot time which we can use to our advantage to self-reflect and redefining our goals. It is a perfect time to use the pause on all the things usually occupying our minds to reassess the direction we are going and evaluate if we are on the right track or need a drastic (or mild) change. Is our current lifestyle making us happy or are we missing something and not living up to the full potential of life and our desires?

It is also a great opportunity to reflect on our personalities and identify personal strengths and weaknesses to work with.

Stay connected

Feeling strange or lonely? Now more than ever, we need our family and friends. Beat the loneliness by using your free time to catch up with friends via Skype, Zoom or Facetime. Now, I feel loved more than ever!
